Customer Requirements
The customer wanted a professionally installed roll cage that met FIA and Motorsport UK safety standards while also improving the driving position and maintaining a high-quality interior finish.
The project required more than simply installing the cage. It involved careful planning, fabrication and attention to detail to ensure every component worked together as part of a complete competition vehicle.
Work Carried Out
The first stage of the project involved completely stripping the vehicle’s interior to provide access for the roll cage installation.
To ensure the cage was securely mounted, custom mounting plates were manufactured and welded directly to the chassis from beneath the vehicle. This provides the strength and structural integrity required for motorsport applications.
Alongside the roll cage installation, we designed and fabricated bespoke seat mounts that comply with FIA and Motorsport UK safety requirements.
The custom seat mounts enabled the driver’s seat to be positioned lower within the vehicle, offering several important benefits:
- Improved driving position
- Lower centre of gravity
- Increased driver security
- Enhanced safety
To complete the installation, a number of additional brackets and fabricated components were manufactured to ensure every element of the interior and safety equipment was correctly installed.
Once the fabrication work had been completed, we carefully refitted as much of the original interior as possible around the new roll cage to achieve a clean, professional finish.
Attention to Detail
As part of the final build, the dashboard was sent to Thomas & Vines Ltd for specialist flocking.
Dashboard flocking provides a durable, non-reflective finish that helps reduce glare through the windscreen, improving visibility for the driver during competition. It also gives the interior a professional motorsport appearance that complements the overall build.
The finished dashboard provided the perfect finishing touch to the project.
The Result
The completed Mitsubishi Evo X is now equipped with a professionally installed Custom Cages roll cage, FIA/Motorsport UK compliant seat mounting system and a competition-focused interior designed for both safety and performance.
By combining high-quality fabrication, careful installation and attention to detail, the finished vehicle is ready for track use with improved driver positioning, enhanced structural safety and a professional finish throughout.
Most importantly, the customer was delighted with the completed build and the quality of the workmanship.
