Kent Motorsport Project:

Installation of a Fulcrum Half Roll Cage

Project at a Glance

Project Overview

A well-installed roll cage is one of the most important safety upgrades for any track-focused vehicle. As well as improving occupant protection, it can also contribute to increased chassis rigidity and provide a solid foundation for future competition upgrades.

For this Renault Clio 182, we were asked to install a Fulcrum half roll cage, ensuring it was securely fitted and finished to a high standard. Although the cage itself is a bolt-in design, careful preparation and welding are required to achieve a safe, durable and professional installation.

Customer Requirements

The customer wanted to improve the safety of their Clio 182 for track use by installing a Fulcrum half roll cage.

The installation needed to be completed to a high standard, with particular attention given to the structural mounting points and long-term durability of the vehicle.

Work Carried Out

Although the Fulcrum half roll cage is designed to bolt into the vehicle, the installation begins with the preparation of the chassis.

The cage attaches through four dedicated mounting bases, each of which must first be accurately positioned and welded to the vehicle. Correct positioning is essential to ensure the roll cage fits precisely and provides the strength required for track use.

Once the mounting bases had been welded into place, we treated and sealed the underside of the chassis around the installation points. Applying a protective seal helps guard against moisture, road debris and corrosion, ensuring the work remains protected for years to come.

With the preparation complete, the roll cage was bolted into position, resulting in a secure, strong and neatly finished installation.

Why It Matters

Installing a roll cage is about much more than simply fitting the visible structure.

The strength and reliability of the installation depend on the quality of the preparation, the accuracy of the mounting points and the standard of the welding. Taking the time to properly protect the chassis after welding is equally important, helping to prevent corrosion and preserve the integrity of the vehicle.

By carrying out every stage of the installation with care and attention to detail, we ensure that the finished result is not only functional but also built to last.

The Result

The completed installation provides the Renault Clio 182 with a professionally fitted Fulcrum half roll cage that is both secure and neatly integrated into the vehicle.

The welded mounting bases, combined with careful corrosion protection, provide a strong and durable foundation, giving the customer confidence that the car is better prepared for future track day use.

The finished installation is clean, tidy and ready for the next stage of the vehicle’s development.
