Customer Requirements
The owner wanted to prepare the Clio for regular track day use by upgrading the vehicle’s safety equipment and driving position.
The brief was to install a high-quality half roll cage and race seats while ensuring the finished installation was both secure and professionally integrated into the vehicle.
The driver’s seat also needed to remain adjustable, allowing the driving position to be tailored for comfort and control.
Work Carried Out
The project began with the installation of a pair of competition race seats.
To achieve the correct seating position, we designed and manufactured bespoke seat mounting bases specifically for the vehicle. This ensured each seat was securely mounted while providing the optimum driving position.
To improve usability, the driver’s seat was fitted using universal seat runners, allowing the seat to be adjusted forwards and backwards without compromising the strength or integrity of the installation.
The owner chose a half roll cage manufactured by Safety Devices, which we sourced as part of the project.
Before the cage could be installed, the vehicle required careful preparation. Mounting bases were accurately positioned and welded to the chassis to provide secure attachment points. Once these had been completed, the roll cage was bolted into place, creating a strong and professionally finished installation.
Every stage of the work was completed with close attention to detail, ensuring the cage and seating system complemented one another and formed a solid foundation for the vehicle’s continued development.
Why It Matters
A professionally installed roll cage and race seats are among the most valuable upgrades for any track-focused vehicle.
Competition seats provide improved lateral support, helping the driver remain securely positioned during heavy braking and high-speed cornering. This allows greater control of the steering and pedals, reducing fatigue and improving confidence behind the wheel.
The roll cage enhances occupant protection while also increasing chassis rigidity, contributing to more consistent vehicle behaviour during demanding track driving.
By combining custom-fabricated seat mounts, adjustable seat runners and a carefully installed roll cage, this Clio benefits from both improved safety and a more focused driving experience.
The Result
The Renault Clio 172 now has a professionally installed Safety Devices half roll cage and competition seating package, providing the ideal starting point for its development into a capable track day car.
The owner was delighted with the quality of the workmanship and the finished installation. Following completion of this stage of the build, they asked Kent Motorsport to carry out additional work to continue preparing the vehicle for life on the track.
