Customer Requirements
The owner had invested in new suspension components with the aim of improving the Caterham’s already impressive handling characteristics.
Rather than simply fitting the new parts, the goal was to ensure the entire chassis worked as a balanced package, giving the driver greater confidence and allowing the suspension upgrades to deliver their full potential on track.
Work Carried Out
We began by installing the customer-supplied suspension components before carrying out a complete chassis setup.
With the new suspension in place, we then:
- Set the vehicle’s corner weight distribution
- Checked and adjusted front and rear camber
- Optimised toe settings
- Fine-tuned the suspension geometry for track use
Every adjustment was made with the intention of achieving the best possible balance, stability and steering response.
Simply replacing suspension components does not guarantee improved handling. The geometry and weight distribution must also be correctly configured to ensure the chassis performs as intended.
Why It Matters
A Caterham Seven is extremely sensitive to chassis setup.
Its lightweight construction, direct steering and performance-focused suspension mean that even relatively small changes to corner weights or geometry can have a noticeable effect on the way the car behaves.
Professional corner weighting and suspension alignment ensure that each tyre shares the workload correctly, helping the car remain balanced during braking, acceleration and cornering. Combined with accurate geometry settings, this gives the driver a more predictable and confidence-inspiring car, allowing them to make the most of both the vehicle and the upgraded suspension components.
