Customer Requirements
The owner reported that the Porsche felt nervous, particularly when driving in a straight line.
Rather than tracking smoothly, the car would drift to the left or right depending on the road surface, requiring continual steering corrections to keep it travelling in a straight line.
The owner wanted the car to feel stable, predictable and enjoyable to drive once again.
Diagnosing the Problem
Every steering and handling issue begins with careful measurement rather than assumption.
We carried out a full four-wheel alignment and suspension assessment to establish the exact geometry of the vehicle.
The measurements immediately highlighted the cause of the problem.
Both front wheels were significantly out of alignment. One wheel had excessive toe-in while the other had excessive toe-out, meaning that although the steering wheel appeared to be pointing straight ahead, each front wheel was effectively trying to steer the car in a different direction.
This conflicting geometry created an unsettled feeling through the steering and caused the vehicle to dart from side to side, particularly on uneven road surfaces or when following cambers in the road.
Correcting the Geometry
Once the underlying issue had been identified, we adjusted the front suspension geometry to return the toe settings to the correct specification.
Accurate steering geometry is essential on any performance car, particularly one as responsive as a Porsche, where relatively small alignment errors can have a significant effect on vehicle behaviour.
After completing the adjustments, we carried out final checks to ensure the steering geometry was correctly balanced across the front axle and that the vehicle was ready to return to the road.
Why It Matters
Many owners assume poor handling is caused by worn suspension components or tyres.
In reality, incorrect steering geometry can dramatically affect the way a vehicle behaves, even when every mechanical component is in good condition.
A professional geometry assessment can restore:
- Straight-line stability
- Steering precision
- Driver confidence
- Predictable cornering
- Tyre life
- Overall driving enjoyment
This project demonstrates how accurate diagnosis and careful adjustment can often solve problems without replacing expensive components.
The Result
Following the geometry adjustments, the transformation in the Porsche’s handling was immediate.
The nervous behaviour disappeared, allowing the car to track straight and respond naturally to steering inputs.
Most importantly, the owner once again had confidence in the vehicle and could enjoy driving it as Porsche intended.
Their feedback perfectly summed up the result:
“…the car drives now as I expect it to, the handling is beautiful.”
For us, that’s what professional suspension setup is all about—returning confidence to the driver and allowing the vehicle to perform at its very best.
